Agency Commission
When it comes to the entertainment industry, particularly for child actors and performers, working with an agency is a vital part of securing opportunities.
This agency provides a structured way for young talent to access various opportunities without parents needing to navigate the complexities of the industry on their own.
To ensure transparency and fairness, it is crucial to outline the commission structure and the terms associated with our agency services.
Our commission structure is designed to ensure that both the child performers and their families are treated fairly, while also covering the operational costs of the agency that enable us to secure and manage bookings for our clients.
Below, we break down the key aspects of our commission rates, what they cover, and the benefits for child actors and performers working with us.
Agency Commission Structure for Child Actors and Performers
As an agency specializing in child performers, we act as intermediaries between the talent and various clients, such as casting directors, production companies, brands, and event organizers.
The short answer is that the agency charges 20% commission – a more detailed in-depth answer follows:)
Our main responsibility is to secure paid work opportunities, negotiate contracts, and handle invoicing.
We also ensure that all payments from clients are processed and delivered to the performers and their families, minus the agreed-upon commission.
Importantly, no fees are charged to parents for any work that is advertised through the agency. Instead, our agency earns a commission from the earnings paid to us on behalf of the child performers by our clients.
Below is a breakdown of the commission rates:
Commission Rates
- Photographic Work (25%)
- Photographic work is a vital aspect of the entertainment industry, from modeling campaigns to headshots for actors. We charge a commission of 25% for any photographic work that is booked through our agency. This includes both individual photo sessions as well as any commercial or promotional photography assignments.
- Other Commercial Work (20%)
- Commercial work, such as advertisements, endorsements, or promotional appearances, falls under the category of “other commercial work.” For any such projects, the agency charges a 20% commission. This commission helps cover the agency’s efforts in securing these high-profile opportunities for your child.
- Usages/Buyouts and All-In Quoted Fees (20%)
- Usages and buyouts refer to situations where a client pays for the use of the performer’s image or performance in a commercial or advertising campaign for a fixed period, with additional fees for extended usage. When these types of agreements are booked, our agency charges 20% of the fee. Similarly, for all-in quoted fees (which include multiple elements like usage, buyouts, and performance fees rolled into one), our agency retains 20% of the total quoted amount.
- Fittings, Theatre, Stage, and Invoices Totalling £200 or More (15%)
- For jobs that involve fittings, theatre performances, or stage work where the total invoice amount is £200 or more, we charge a 15% commission. This is reflective of the extra work involved in managing these types of bookings, such as handling logistics, negotiating with multiple parties, and ensuring compliance with child labor laws.
- Work Less Than £200 (0%)
- For any invoiced work that totals less than £200, we do not charge any commission. This is an exception, acknowledging that smaller jobs may not require as much agency intervention or may be less lucrative, but still valuable for the child performer’s portfolio or experience.
TV Series/Feature Film Work
The commission structure for TV and film work differs slightly depending on the number of seasons or series a show has. The breakdown is as follows:
- 1st Series: 20% Commission
- For a child performer’s first appearance in a TV series or feature film, the agency retains 20% of the total earnings. This is standard for initial bookings, as it often involves more administrative work and negotiations for the first time.
- 2nd Series: 17.5% Commission
- If a child performer is booked for a second series of a TV show or a sequel to a film, the commission rate drops slightly to 17.5%. This is because the agency’s role becomes somewhat more streamlined once a performer is established within a production. Additionally, the talent has built credibility, and the casting directors or producers are already familiar with the performer’s work.
- 3rd or More Series: 15% Commission
- For subsequent series or additional seasons of a TV show, the commission drops to 15%. This reduction reflects the ongoing, ongoing relationship between the performer, the agency, and the client. As a child actor gains more experience and recognition, their bookings may become more routine, and the administrative work required is typically less extensive.
Additional Notes on Our Commission Structure
While the commission structure is designed to be as transparent as possible, there are a few additional key points to note:
- We Are Not a Sole Representative Agency
- It is important to note that we are not a sole representative (sole rep) agency. This means that child performers are welcome to work with other agents and agencies as well. However, we encourage exclusive agreements for certain types of work, especially where the talent’s development is a priority. By working with multiple agencies, performers have the flexibility to access a wider range of opportunities, though the terms of those agreements should be carefully considered to avoid conflicts of interest.
- All Bookings Are Subject to Our Agency Terms and Conditions (T&C’s)
- All work and bookings arranged through our agency are subject to our agency’s terms and conditions, which apply equally to both registered and unregistered parent/children. These terms cover a variety of areas, including payment schedules, parental obligations, work hours, and how disputes or conflicts are handled. We encourage all clients to thoroughly review these T&C’s before applying to the agency, ensuring that both parties are on the same page regarding expectations and responsibilities.
- Acknowledgement of Terms and Conditions
- By applying for representation or by accepting a booking through our agency, you acknowledge that you have read and agreed to our T&C’s. It is important that all families involved in the agency understand their rights and obligations, as well as the specific terms that apply to bookings made through our service.
How the Commission Benefits Child Performers and Families
While some parents may be concerned about the agency’s commission structure, it’s important to recognize the value that a professional agency brings to the table.
- Access to Opportunities
- One of the most significant benefits of working with an agency is access to exclusive opportunities that may not be available to those working independently. The agency’s network of casting agents, production companies, and commercial brands opens doors that can help the child performer progress in their career.
- Industry Expertise and Negotiation Skills
- The agency brings a wealth of experience to the negotiation table, ensuring that contracts are fair, and the best possible terms are secured for the performer. We handle the negotiation of fees, ensuring that the child’s career is protected while also maximizing earnings potential.
- Child Welfare Compliance
- Working with an agency ensures that all work is compliant with child labor laws, including restrictions on working hours and conditions that ensure the well-being of the child performer. Our agency ensures that all bookings adhere to legal and ethical standards, giving parents peace of mind.
- Administrative Support
- The agency manages all aspects of invoicing, payments, and contract administration. This allows parents to focus on their child’s career development rather than the logistics of booking work and chasing payments. Additionally, the agency keeps track of payments and ensures that the correct commission rates are applied.
- Professional Development
- An agency’s role is not just about finding work but also guiding a child’s professional development. Through our work, performers gain valuable experience, build their portfolios, and can be mentored in the industry. The more work a child gets, the more likely they are to develop a long-term career, and the agency is there every step of the way to help with that growth.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the agency’s commission structure for child actors and performers is designed to be fair and transparent, ensuring that both the performer and the agency benefit from each opportunity.
With competitive commission rates, we focus on securing the best opportunities for young talent while handling all the necessary administrative work that allows families to focus on what matters most—supporting their child’s career.
By choosing to work with our agency, families are not just gaining access to work but also a team of professionals committed to nurturing their child’s career, ensuring they are always treated fairly, and providing them with a solid foundation for success in the entertainment industry.
